"Keep some distance behind me." He thought it might be a mistake if they saw her before him. He would try to dispatch the palace guards as quickly as he could manage to do so and then find those still loyal to Lara and her kin to replace them. It would give them the high ground so to speak. Two riders stood there at the entrance to the palace, both glanced at one another seeing him, but neither had a chance to do anything else, because those two abruptly dropped their weapons and clutched at their throats. They dropped shortly after, and he continued on past them. It wasn't necessary to feel bad for the riders. They were slavers one and all. Riding with Eredin from world to world to take humans and bring them here. The poor human maids startled upon seeing him and the bodies of the guards. They'd already begun shivering. No doubt assuming he would kill them as well. He didn't get the chance to reassure them as an arrow narrowly missed him, just grazed his arm, ripped through the fabric of his cloak. Lifting a hand, he blew the archer on the balcony back. Yes, the guards were panicked. They were not ready and not great in number.

Breathing in deeply he reached for the drank that he'd not touched until now. He decided that he'd down it all in one go and then briskly stood, because he fully intended to take out what guards Eredin had left behind. There wouldn't be many. Eredin had no doubt taken the majority of his riders on the hunt. He felt it likely that he could clear the palace with so few on his own. He just needed a bit of a boost to prepare himself for it. He was after all... a sage and not a warrior. It was not exactly in his job description, but he'd had to kill in defense of others a few times and this would be no different. "Eredin is away on the hunt. Now would be the time to take the palace from under him. He'll no more have expected Lara to be alive than I." It should be easy to take it from him once everyone saw it was Lara who would be occupying the throne. The real heir. Who could speak against her taking her rightful place? There was rule of law after all.

Just caught back up with DCeased and the fact that Alfred didn't get to bury any of his dead family, he just had to do the same thing as before and immediately move on to prioritizing the surviving kid. That's pretty depressing, but not as depressing as Jason breaking into the Cave and finding them like that.
